Thanks for the comments everyone. I did run into a couple of tricks for anyone wanting to go "solo" while keeping the stock seat. Those ugly white bolt retainers can be trimmed down so that they are not visable. Why the hell HD went with ones so large is beyond me. Also, when you take off the plastic protecting film on the fender, take time to put some thin padding under the luggage rack mounting areas. I used 3M double sided tape and cut up an old soft leather bandana. Taped the cut leather to the underside, and viola. Instant protection. I used leather to hopefully last longer than say felt, or other less weather resistant material.

When I took of the factory protective film, I trimmed "gaskets" out of it to protect the mounting area. Seems to work well enough though the leather will certianly provide more protection.
