Default Heritage - remove backrest and passenger seat?

Greetings all!

Brand new owner of a 2010 Heritage Softail Classic. I also own a 2007 Super Glide Custom....with solo seat and a bit more stripped down.

I adore this Heritage but, when I'm riding solo, I'd like to remove the backrest and passenger seat. It doesn't appear to be easy? Looks to me like the mechanics for the backrest is underneath/inside the bags. Am I missing the obvious?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Kelly

Just removed mine last weekend. Very easy; Just remove the two bolts inside the bags as well as the support bracket and they come right out. then you can remove the sissy bar. reinstall the bags and you are done.

Nope, you're right. If you put the detachable brackets and docking hardware on the bike it pops off in a jif.

Hello, new to the forum but been riding for over 10 years. Have a '10 Softail myself and just purchased the Hardstreet Saddle bags and wish to remove my backrest also. How do you get the backrest off?

The backrest is held on with the bolts that go through the fender rails, which also hold on the bags. Just unbolt the bags and remove them. Then remove the bolts that held the bags on. Backrest will come right off. There are backing plates on the inside of the fenders that the saddlebag bolts fit into; be careful as they can fall down inside the fender. If that happens, you should be able to reach up between the tire and fender to hold them in place. Also, be careful as you remove the bolts, as the backrest bracket may slip and scratch your paint as the bolts come out.
I know it sounds complicated, but it's really not. Good luck...

One screw for the passenger pillion, four bolts for the backrest, get the detachable hardware and sideplates for the sissy bar and do it in less then a minute.

I go from this

To this in about (1) minute. with the Detachable sissy bar

I made the bib/backrest for solo ridding only out of the stock pillion seat by cutting it down and reformed it, then had it recovered when I bought the wife the bigger/thicker Touring rear seat.
