Default EFI fuel control.. How good are they???

I have an all stock 2008 Heritage. It runs quite hot. Would adding one of these EFI systems help and can someone tell me in detail what these exactly do, what they cost, how hard are they to install and are they worth installing?

I would switch to a synthetic motor oil first. It lowered my engine temp considerably.

An EFI tuner basically changes the air fuel ratio to a better ratio. The ratio is set for epa emissions. The tuner will change the a/f mixture to burn at a more normal rate. More fuel=less heat. It's similar to changing the jets in a carb to make the bike run at the correct a/f ratio.

Now the question is: Which tuner do I use?

I would go to the General Tech forum - fuel injection and start reading and educate yourself before jumping into a purchase. you can spend $$$ on a simple re-map from local HD to a fuel mgt system, piggy backs, like PCV, or full replacement, like ThunderMAx, or just software, like TTS Tuner (plugin a laptop, and pay for the software to do the adjustments).

Everybody has there opinions on what is best. I prefer software only, like the TTS Tuner. Don;t like putting more hardware on the scoot.

good luck..

i use the thundermax and while it tunes as i drive there are many others out there that dont auto tune and they are find depending on if you get a map that works for your bike or if you pay to have a dyno tune done. i used to run the pclll and paid $320 to have it tuned and it was great. i went with the thundermax auto tune as i keep changing pipes and that way i dont have to pay over again for dyno tunes. other have used canned maps and they were fine. my bike would not work well in a canned map.

Man what a can of worms! Do a search on SEST, PCV, Thundermax, TTS,. That will take you like a week to read all the pro's and cons. Its like asking what oil should I use. If It were my I would go to my local indy's and see what they perfer because as time goes on and you change exoust, cams, ect. they will be doing the tuning and you dont want to be going 100 miles out of your way to find a tuner that is familiar with what you got. Do some more research bro.

When my bike was stock I installed a set of Xieds and it helped with the heat issue...
Then when I decided on what pipes and A/C to get I went the T-Max route and have been very pleased...

If the bike is stock, it depends on what you plan to do in the future. Just a mild stage one? If so, you don't need to invest a lot of $. If you are putting in cams or upgrading the Zippers autotune is great, but more $.
It really depends on what you have in mind down the road for the motor etc.
