Sounds like you could barter a few trades w/HD Forums members & the damage looks pretty cosmetic. Definitely take the check & get your own parts - money in the bank & self-satisfaction w/the new look. Sucks the bike tipped in transport, but now look at it as a good time to really personalize. Good luck!
That sucks about your lo,hope you get it looking new again soon, I laid my lo down at a stop sign a couple weeks ago, grabbed that darn front brake!!! only got a couple scratches on the mirror and popped the left turn signal cap off, snapped right back on though, good luck with you lo!!!
Give me a call, I can help. The last time I took my bike for an estimate well over then years ago it was $60. Of course that was at an Indy and a long time ago.
I just read your horror story- sorry to hear about your trobles man.
I have a 2010 FLSTF and have an OEM air cleaner and exhaust with only 500 miles on them in perfect condition sitting in my basement, aalong with the OEM derby cover and maybe some other parts you will need.
I'm looking around at what peope are saying about engine guards- did you have one? My friend laid down his bike and messed up his knee and shoulder, as as totaling the bike
due to an idiot in a cage. He had no engine guard that may have protected him some and his bike some, and I just want to say I'm sorry and find out if you had one that prevented even more damage.
Lots of luck to a speedy and reasonable repair.
The appraisal fee should be waived if you are getting your bike fixed at that dealer. If not, wait till you get home to get it repaired. I worked at a dealer and we always waived the fee if you got it repaired at our shop.
