Default Dealer turned down work!

Went in to have the 2500 mile service done on my Xbones today. Mechanic said not to worry about it until at least the 5,000. Said the MoCo just wants peoples money. He said he has a springer front end and he does his every 10,000. Wow, honesty from a dealership.

I would not go that long on my bike. There is something wrong with this picture. I would find another mechanic.

Recommended service is 1K, 5K and every 5 after that. Only other service an X-Bones requires is a 500 mile service. There is no 2500 mile service.

That depends on the environment you live in. Some hot, dry and dusty climates are recommended every 2500 instead of every 5.

The manual says that just the front end of the springer needs to be serviced every 2500 not the whole bike. He said that's too often. Now i'm not sure what to think.

Thats right, they will grease steering head, check the steering head bearings (fall away) and the torque on the rocker arms.

(I'm guessing) that its about an hours labour, the steering head bearing adjustment and lube would be a few minutes, the front wheel has to come off for the rocker arm adjustment.

In which case I would be tempted to cough up, especially if the bike in warranty and you had any problems down the road ..

If the dealer starts quoting silly money say couple or three hours labour I (might) be tempted to wait until 5000. Just my 0.02c

He might be thinking that if you wait then there will be more business for them with repair/labor for parts that should have been done at 2500 miles. Do what you feel comfortable with.

The dealers are not called stealer"s for nothing.

Hollywood is exactly right...kudos to the tech, he could have skinned you....

If a specifice problem does occur under warranty it should be addresed, however you don't seem to have a specific prob at the moment...

No issues, just trying to keep it that way without getting hosed. Thanks for the info.

With respect I don't think Hollywood is correct
Don't know if its different for Europe than the US, but my owners manual clearly states that at 2500 miles the bones needs a front end service (i.e. the fork adjustment should be checked)

Only springers have this requirement

Its very unlikely, but if the OP doesn't get the recommended front end service checked and subsequently there is a warranty claim for mashed head bearings or stuck rocker arm spherical bearings there is wriggle room for the moco. Extremely unlikely I know but best that owners have full info.
