Default 2001 carberated is backfiring

Hello o have a 01 fxsts carberated and as of this spring it started to backfire through pipes. Its a stock bike. I ride it pretty damn hard.it also starts hard or floods when its hot and I try and restart it. What could've gone wrong? I don't think I would have to adjust carb seeing as it ran perfect before I put it away before winter last year. Thanks for any help I can get.

Does the backfire occur at low RPM or at top end?

As a general rule of thumb, low RPM backfiring is usually an ignition (points) problem....top end backfiring is usually fuel related....

Mine had the same problem. Mine was a tear in the rubber diaphram. Just take the top hat off the top of the carb and see if yours is torn.

If your diaphram is torn your carb will not do anything, give it gas and it will die.

My guess would be intake manifold seals. Good luck finding your problem, asd let us know what you found. Thanks, TJ
