Bought a used windshield for my Heritage Classic but its a little too high to see over the top of it. Who cuts windshields? Do I take it to a "windshield" shop? A plexiglass shop? HD Service Dept. Ive read they can easily be trimmed to the right height, but who does that work and does it right. Any help greatly appreciated.
I've read here by using the search that you can use a drummel, jigsaw or other cutters to shave off the top then polish it up. I haven't given it a go yet but getting real close having the nerve I just don't want a wavy windscreen.
I have cut the windshield a few times for the OL on her previous bike also to fit around my nacelle. Here is what I did, I used painters tape & taped the windshield just past where I would cut I made a pen line parallel to the top of the shield and used a jigsaw with a metal blade (fine blade) took my time and cut it, I filed the cut with a metal flat file.
just take your time and you will be fine.
Oh I also taped the bottom of the saw so it would not scratch the shield.
I'm a short liitle $hit so I look through mine. No problem what so ever, even in the rain and I've got a big ol scratch right at eye level. I'd use it as is for a while and then if it really bugs you cut it down. Search this forum for how it's done. It looks pretty simple, just take your time.

+1 I look through mine on both my Deluxe and FBL and I like it that way. No bugs hitting the top of my head and no problems at all seeing through the shield. Try it for a while. You can always cut it down...but you can't add it back.
Cut mine last yr. Used Roto Zip.... cut shield very easy.
Retired Sheet Metal, so my layout work was done different than above.. but for average person the vid does well..
Also if u use one,, do as said above,, do practice run above the real cut..
leave tape on when smoothing edges... I still put one scratch in mine...
Will say now after one yr some of the protective film on the inside of the shield is coming off at one point,, making a little half circle that can be seen when looked at in certain light.
