Default Head temp alarm set?

I have the Thunderheart speedo/tach combo that has a head temp alarm option & I also use the Thundermax w/autotune on my 09 Fatboy.

It's a hot out there today 90*F+, at highway speeds the temp stays under 250*F but in heavy traffic it went to 308*f and the high temp alarm flashed which I have set at 300*F, I will have to find out if it reads the front or back cylinder.
Is 300*f too low a value for alarm? what is a good setting for head temp alarm?
The oil temp on my bike generally stays under 200* but today it reached 220*

Local Indy tells me 230 is "normal" operating temp for oil. Maybe above 250 is high.

He is talking about head temp, not oil temp. Head temps can easily get over 300°F on these late model TC motors.

I have my engine light set to come on at 325°. It has come on twice in the past, after 30 or so minutes in stop and go traffic, at which point I pulled over and shut 'er down, but I have not had it come on since I started using 100% synthetic oil. Under 325° and you are probably okay.

thanxs for the replies,
I will call zippers tomorrow and get an answer to what is a good temp to have the alarm set at.
I have the alarm set at 300* & never had it come on.
The hot weather & stop & go traffic combination is not an unusual situation for many riders down south & there head temp must be higher than 300+ on any given day.
When I get an answer from zippers I will post it.
cheers
Colin

mine is set at 350. when it does flash it is a good thing as it lowers the afr to help cool the engine

hey tk353,
you are bang on, Zippers advised me to set the alarm to 350* he also advised that the Thundermax maps have a built in alram also & most are 350*

they sure have great support, the guy even advised me on a new map release that would work great on my bike.

thanxs for the replies & ride safe

Colin
