FatBoy Lo Tire Life
Called local stealership ... they had tube for the 200/55-R17 and wanted $45 for it ... new tire available for $201. I could not find the tire anywhere else locally ... I opted for the tire. I won't plug a motorcycle tire ... and I'm not crazy about putting a tube in a tubeless tire.
Took the new tire/bike to a local ... well established (25 years) local repair shop ... and wrench turner said I shouldn't be too unhappy ... old tire only had about another 1000 miles before he would toss it. I was skeptical until I took a good look at the new tire and the old tire ... the side grooves/sipes in the center were worn down to nearly gone. I knew this tire had soft bottoms .. but ... worn at 5200 ... and toss at 6200!
FLSTFB owners ... what is your tire wear experience ... ? Thanks.
-Front?
-Rear?
PS: Anyone have a non-stealership source for the tire?
I get my tires online, much cheaper than dealers and some places don't charge for shipping. Always order a new one when I put on a new tire so I have one in reserve.
Get someone with a 'twisty' right wrist, add in a bit of hot weather and the hot pavement that goes with it, and the mileage is going to suffer every time.
Load the bike down and run the tires with too much or too little air pressure in them and they can wear out even faster.
In any event, considering the tires Harley has been putting on their bikes in recent years. The odds are that its going to be a rare exception and not a rule for any of their heavier bike's to have a tire that will see anything like 10,000 miles .
My bike tires have about 9300 miles on them, and the rear is still legal, but only just. I plan to replace both of them as soon as the riding season ends. But till then I plan on riddin it like I stole it, unless its raining, then I'll park it, just in case the tread is a little too thin.

... well ... I do have "twisty" throttle hand ... and I travel fast on I-75 ... and I am not going to change either one of those habits -- expensive though they be ... and its wicked hot here ... so .. given the experience of others .. seems my 5200 or so miles not so bad ... I could have probably gone another 1000 on the tires .. but that nail cut right through a couple cords ...
Stealership set me back $221 (tax included) and local wrench turner shop charged me one hour to install at $65 .. so .. that f'ing drywall nail cost me $286 ...
Front tire wear suggests I can get another 4k on it.
IF .. I don't pick up another nail ... I'll be stock piling front and rear tires to be purchased from Internet source ... while the Harley/Dunlop tire is great ... I'll be looking for less expensive but solid tires soon. Any suggestions from FLSTFB owners much appreciated on replacement tires and sources ... I'll also probably replace the factory wheels with something more open .. but black ...
I wouldn't like it but that the way it is....
U guys gotta love that big wide tire......
