Default FNG Question...

Ok fellas, and ladies, here goes my first dumb-*** new guy question:

I just bought my first Harley, first street bike actually, a FatBoy Lo.

I have a whopping 400 miles on the seat... I know I know...

so, took the wife out for lunch today, the freaking wind was blowing me all over the place....

Am I that big of a ??

My real question is, is there a legit chance of being blown off my wheels, or do I just need to learn and "suck it up"? the wind was about 20-25 gusts across me.....

let the newbie bashing begin!
But I honestly will appreciate the responses.

M

You will be fine. Just wait till you hit 50+mph crosswind gusts. Thats when things get interestiing. It will blow you across traffic lanes. Congrats on the bike by the way, nice choice.

a detachable windshield for the days you know the wind is going to be strong and gusty(or there is a good chance of rain) would be a good investment...and would keep the better half happy.

Once rode couple hundred miles across South Dakota leaning to the right side the entire time. You won't get blown off, but like Jed1069 said, it will push you from one lane to the other easily. You'll get used to it.

Guys get thrown off their bikes by wind all the time, we all learn with time to check the wind conditions before we get out.

NE is just as bad w/wind & fairings/shields don't make it any better. Just gotta get used to it & be prepared for those gusts that come along when you're traveling on rural roads - especially while going past homesteads. Keep on racking-up the miles & you'll get the hang of it...

Try not to fight the wind to much. Don't let it push you into another lane but let it gust, then get ready for the next gust.

Amen to that. I did a poker run this year in 45 mile an hour gust... spent most of the damn run at what felt like more than a 45 degree angle... goodness it sucked. Arms are spent like jello at the end of the day and my ears wouldn't stop ringing for hours.

Iceman, what part of Nebraska you from? Lincoln here.

Thanks for all the responses... I felt a little like a DB asking.. But, I figured it was just an experience thing... I am ok with that...

Went back out on the freeway a little while ago... still a bitch, but knowing that it was just part of the ride, I was way more relaxed

thanks again guys!
