gas was streaming out left tank
can anyone help? i took my 88 softail for a ride, got gas (93 octane), came home and parked. as soon as i turned around gas was pouring all over the left tank, somehow coming out with the cap on. it made the clear bubble and lifted my emblem. i could of died. does anyone have any idea why this happened. 22 years of riding and this is a first for me. (i recently had my pipes changed and my carb rejetted).

Gotta love some of those custom gas caps. My 99 Heritage would do the same thing after a fill up so I always made sure I was going to ride for a few miles to use up some of the fuel after filling and would never fill just before going home.
For gasoline to affect a clear coat tells me that it didn't get painted with very good paint or it was put on very poorly.

vapor lock in the line somewhere, possibly due to carb work
how hot was it when you filled, did you fill to the brim, did you go for a longish ride after filling?
what about your petcocks, closed or open?
