Default BUB Softail Sidecutters - Samson Legend Exhaust

I am looking to do a little something different with the exhaust on my 2010 FatBoy Lo. I also like the V&H pipes but just about everyone has them. Which isn't knockin' you guys that have V&H pipes, they look and sound excellent. I am just looking to go in another direction and hope it doesn't suck.

I haven't found anything about the Sidecutters except 2 videos on youtube and about the same with Samson Legend Series pipes. I have seen a few things on the Samson Original Big Guns pipes cracking but the Legend Series costs more and have heat shields and baffles.

Anybody out there have experiences with or heard anything about the fit and durability of the BUB Softail Sidecutters or the Samson Legend Series pipes (Street Sweeper or Boloney)? As with most of us I have enough money do to this once and be happy for 5 years before I could even consider changing the exhaust again.

Run the Samson Big Guns Series 1 on several bikes, never had an issue except one set blueing after many, many miles. These have all been on evos.

I like the contrast of chrome and black the V&H's have. They are great pipes. If you want something different, I like the Big Growl Down and Dirty for your bike. They should run you under $200. Then you can powder coat them black.

Big Growl is a carbon copy of the Big Gun Series I pipes. Very loud, throaty. $150 on ebay. Shields will cost you almost that much. So if you can get them for $200 with shields go to the Ultima site.

Hey thanks for the advice guys. I do like the Big Growl Down n' Dirty and Down n' Out pipes. However from the research I have just done it appears that the Big Growl pipes won't fit my bike (1584 cc) without modifications that I can't make. I also ride to work at 5am so I want them loud (woodsy/rural here) but not so loud I get arrested going by the truckstop. So I think will have to have baffles in whichever pipes I choose.
I am still torn on which pipes I am going to go with. I'll have to continue researching.

I really appreciate the information and ideas. Ride on!

Just an idea for you NH,why don't you get a set of black slip ons cut your front pipe down and make a set of shotgun pipe like these on my BB.I think they would look good on that LO and it wouldn't cost like a whole new exhaust would.

Not a bad idea. I did look into the V&H Straightshots which would work. I think I would have to modify the top pipe as well to get behind where the pipes are connected in order to achieve that look, which I like a lot better than if I just put the slip-ons on without modifying the pipes. Another option to think about. Thanks for the idea.

Look into Cycle Shack and Python mufflers. They make mufflers with the brackets built in that would take very little effort to mount. The front pipe only would require a little tweeking to mount.

Still no information on the Sidecutters. I wonder if they would drag on my Lo. Luckily I have all winter to make a decision. Yes, I live in a place where there's winter. Although I hear Nevada is nice this time of year...
