My wife rode her heritage to Yellowstone and back. Round trip 3755.9 miles. Had her seat reshaped and a gel pack added. 400 to 536 mile days No problems.
I've only ridden short distances so far on my 09 Heritage, but I'm impressed with the seat and overall comfort of this bike. The seat is more comfortable than my Goldwing's. The only thing the wing has over the Heritage is cruise control, stereo and power. Love my bikes.
One trip from New Brunswick Canada to upstate New York through Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and into up state New York. Almost 4000Km. Rode some 400 mile days, some 600 mile days. This was two up by the way with luggage on the rack and the saddle bags full plus some more tied here and there. Stock seat, engine guard, highway pegs At the end off 13 days I was tired but the ride quality was great. Two trips from New Brunswick to Newfoundland two up, 3500 miles each trip same setup.
This bike rides nice and is a great setup right off the dealer floor. I may indeed change the seat to the signature series seat some time soon and change the shock height to handle two up touring but that is all.
By the way I am not a young fellow anymore and I do have back and hip concerns. It's still good lol.
Texas to Sturgis several times on a 2000 Heritage. 40,000+ fantastic miles. Never had a problem with the ride. But now that I ride an Ultra, I would find it tough to go back to the Heritage to do the same miles.
Last June I did a cross country from Las Vegas to PA and back, 5500+ miles. I averaged about 450-500 miles per day, most of it in the rain. I have to say that the Heritage was a joy to ride, no rider fatigue, bike cruised at 70 mph with no problems. As one poster said cruise would have been nice, but oh well. I like the Heritage because I am 5' 8" and I sit better and can flat foot both feet. I traded a Ultra for the softail mainly because the Ultra was just to heavy for me plus too high, I always had leg cramps when riding any distance. So enjoy your trip, you just might find that the Heritage is a great ride!
Just came back from a 6200 mile trip from MD to WY,ID, OR, WA, Mt etc. At present I have a 2008 Heritage, 29,485 miles on the bike. This bike has been cross country three times. My son and I pick a different destination out West to go to each year. This is my third Heritage, a 2008. I am still riding the stock Harley seat, this year I made two additions. I put a set of four inch Pullback Risers on the bike and a Firehouse Custom Backrest. The Risers really helped to relieve the pain I feel across my shoulders after a 450 to 500 mile day.
When traveling thru IA,NE and some of the other Midwest States if possible try to find gas without ethanol, you lose mpg, also make sure you don't mistakenly fill up with E85 which I saw this year at a couple gas stops. Look for gas every 150 miles or more frequently if on back roads. Carry at minumum a good rollup tool kit. Buy a good size T Bag or comprable luggage large enough to carry clothing for at least seven days, then wash at half way point. A Luggage Rack will allow you to carry another small bag. I run two PSI less in both front and rear tires which give me a bit more comfort and more tire surface on road. S 100 Wax on windshield helps shed heavy rain. Have extra key tie wrapped and hidden on bike frame. Engine Guard with Road Pegs help to stretch your legs. Don't leave on a 5K trip with 7k on your rear tire unless you want to lose time or worse on the road. I replace one frt tire for every three on the rear, some do better, some do worse.
I do miss Cruise Control and Radio that I had on my 2005 ULTRA but I love my Heritage and it handles like a dream. Sorry I got so long winded. Ride Safe.
