touring on a heritage

20,000 miles on an '09 with stock seat. Always solo. Did Atlanta to Denver with two big bags, one on the seat, one on the luggage rack. Makes a good backrest. Forgot my velcro throttle lever thing on the way out - big mistake. Averaged about 500 to 600 miles a day. What everyone is saying is true for me - the Heritage is a great ride. I've done other 10 -12 hour day trips with no problems on that bike. I had and think you'll need highway pegs to move pressure points around on a 10 or 12 hour day. I would love to have cruise control, however, so I'm looking at the Road Glide Ultra, but at 6'3" I'm concerned about leg room versus the Heritage. I like the idea of a 103 and ABS, and I have a bit of a new bike itch, but I just love the Heritage (and the way it looks) and I'm told by the boss I can't have both. It's not unique to the Heritage, but I found the 5 - 6th gear ratio a pain on a long cruise. 6th doesn't hold the speed unless you're dead flat or rolling downhill. My son was on a '06 Road King with five gears and every time I tried 6, I'd end up drifting back.

I've only ridden short distances so far on my 09 Heritage, but I'm impressed with the seat and overall comfort of this bike. The seat is more comfortable than my Goldwing's. The only thing the wing has over the Heritage is cruise control, stereo and power. Love my bikes.
