HELP '05 Deluxe sputtering, caughing, backfiring
Alright. I'm not at all Mr. Goodwrench, but before I take this thing to the stealer, I thought I'd ask.
My ECM went out 2 years ago. The symptom? Caughing, sputtering, choking, loud gun-shot pop on down shift. I had the Race Tuner on it at the time and lost that because they are each mapped to one ECM.
So, guess what? I'm supposed to take this thing 860 miles to Idaho for a run to Pocatello and it's doing it again. Started a few weeks ago and is getting worse. I do have the Stage 1 kit and V&H Long Shot Slash Cut pipes. It seems to run better when warmed up a bit more. It is scary to think I'd break down on the way with about 10 other bikes.
Stupid things like...yes, there's gas and oil.
Someone make me sound intelligent when I take this thing in there.

I think I'd start with the simple stuff. Clean air filter? New plugs? New plug wires? Those are cheap things that might help. If it's not one of those causing the problem then let the dealer look at it. Might also be the fuel filter.
