Default 05 FXST Ignition switch problems

Hi guys,
I am having some trouble with the electrical on my bike. Sometimes when I turn it on the turn signals, brake light, odometer and speedo don't work. If I wiggle the switch back and forth they will all work just fine. I have had it all go out on me while I was riding and hit a decent bump. I am assuming this can be eliminated by replacing the ignition switch. Wondering if anybody has any idea and if so how hard is it to replace the switch? Any swpecial tools that I need to buy?
Thanks!

It's a simple job to replace the switch. I have an 05 FLST and had to replace mine a couple years ago. Be prepared if you go to the dealer to get one! They wanted $120.00 for the switch when I went to get one. I ended up buying one on ebay for around $20.00 and it works fine.

The only thing I had to do to it was to cut a little plastic tab off of it so it would fit properly. Otherwise you just unplug the old one and plug in the new one. The whole job take about 5 minutes.

I now have two keys, One for the ignition and one for the fork lock but for a hundred bucks I'll deal with the two keys.

I went through the same thing... It'll only get worst... Take the switch apart and clean it all up also a little elec grease wouldn't hurt. Just remember how it goes back together. It only takes about 20 minutes and you be good. I would do this before buying a new one.

I've cleaned up a couple for two of my older Softails, but they still didn't last too long after that. The aftermarket ones are cheaper, but the first one I got lasted less than a year. Since then, I've only used the Harley ones and they've both worked good and have lasted a few years now.

Thanks for the info guys. I will start out with just trying to clean it up and see how that works. I will pribably try the cheaper switch to start out and go from there. They all seem to get a mix of reviews...

So today I cleaned the ignition switch up and it didn't seem to help any. It almost seems like there is play in the switch when you turn it on. It wasn't corroded or really dirty at all. I will order a new switch later today and see how that goes. I was quite surprised how easy it was to take the ignition switch out. Took less than 5 minutes to take it out and put it back together (not including time spent cleaning).

Hmmm well you win some and lose some... I cleaned up mine about 3 years ago and it's still going... Good luck with the new switch, let us know how it works out.
