Default Need help/ Solution

I just got a 2010 Deluxe and I want to add a teardrop toolbox. Problem is the H-D dealer tells me that the bracket won't fit any softail after '07.

Do you think it would be easy enough to mod the bracket to fit, or does anyone know where I can get the right one?

Thanks

I just purchased one about 3 days ago for my 2010 Deluxe. Its mounted on the right side. You just need to buy a longer bolt. Let me see if I can find my receipt and get you the part number. The part was about $3 or $4 dollars

Dealers........... I've got lots of parts on my bike that the dealer said wouldn't fit.
The issue usually boils down to the fact that the book doesn't list your model. So they don't want to sell you something they may have to take back.

After all ....Your bike wasn't "listed"...as being compatible.

You can understand their side of it.

Thanks

They didn't have one for the left side of my Heritage so I bought one for another model and modified it to fit. Wasn't hard.

Where there's a will there's a way. As dc4stroke said, most dealers parts people are not as familiar with your bike or the parts catalog as you/we are so they will almost always defer to the book. If it says it won't fit, or just hasn't been listed, they say no.

Its been my experience that they are 'generally open to suggestion and if you can make a case for something fitting. They are more than happy to help you out. After all they are in the business of selling parts and making a sale is always preferable to the alternative.

If it only needs a bolt that's longer than what comes with it. I would suggest you skip getting it from the dealer and instead get a stainless steel one from Lowe's, Home Depot, or your local hardware store. A little bit of polishing and it will look just as good as any chrome piece Harley will sell you at less than half the price and as a bonus you won't have to worry about it rusting on you.
