Hello everyone just wanting to post some pics of the new bike I got. For what I think was a pretty good deal. 2000 Night Train with 11xxx miles, you can see some work has already been started on the bike. But it does need afew small things. First obviously the gas tank, and the ignition needs replaced. Still I think I came out on top of this one.
I Have a question though. I havent had to change any tanks before, can anyone give me some insight on the job. Thanks
hardest thing about pulling the tank is not spliing fuel everywhere. the vacuum operated petcock makes it a bit of a pia.
i put 2 ea. pais of vise grips on each side of the crossoverline. leaving the center of the line exposed.
then i cut the crossover line in half @ the center. i then used a long section of fuel line & a plastic fuel valve from a snow blower i had lying around. didn't spill a drop.
i've heard of others using a vacuum source to get the petcock to flow also.
other than that, it's just a matter of removing front & rear mounting bolts & removing fuel lines.
Yeah the vacuum line can be annoying. Just pull the vacuum line off the carb body. Route a line into a gas can from the petcock. Turn gas to reserve. Here is the cool part. These things don't need much vacuum at all. Put a small syringe into the vacuum line and pull on the handle and thar she blows!!!!!! Fuel will flow fine.
