Gee the last time I checked the Dynas didn't even use a guage close to the physical size of the Softails guage. Truth is, mechanically it would probably work just fine, however, where would you mount it? It won't fit on the tank of a Dyna and if you mount it on the handlebar, you would have to find a holder and cup to put it in.
My fat bob has a 5" gauge in the tank console from the factory.

Just for grins see if you can find the PN of your speedo, if its the same as the Softail version then you should be good to go.
Otherwise there may be some programing differences in the ECM that controls it.
The Softail speedo, and no doubt the newer Dyna is the same, doesn't use a dedicated signal line for the tach. There is one available on the ECM (pin 3) but its not used. Softails instead use a serial bus line from the ECM to the speedo to tell the speedo what to display for most of its functions. So that's why its probably not a good fit (other than size) for a Dyna.
Personally I would rather have a separate tach mounted up on the handlebars (where mine is) hardwired to the ECM so I don't have to look down to see it.
I can get in enough trouble on a bike on my own without adding taking my eyes off the road to the mix.
