I assume that the spokes are properly tightened and that all is aligned properly.
Since he will probably kill his 3rd wheel soon, it may be time to switch to a solid or mag type wheel. I fell in love with the Softail Deluxe...one of the most beautiful bikes ever created. I didn't want the spokes and went for the FatBoy. Love 'em both.

guess I gave you the wrong info....3 wheels with broken spokes....work done by 2 different shops....mags may be next !!!!...looking for a reason why they break...all work done by pros.
cheap chinese spokes. pay the money and get some good american spokes. my mountain bike (less torque than that heritage, if thats possible) used to do the same thing. spokes might have come from the same lot or same manufacturer. china is the bane of the world. littering their garbage across the world with impunity.
I haven't broken a spoke in 22 years of owning Harleys with laced wheels. My only guess, barring defective spokes, is that the rim may be slightly out of round and the builder is trying to use spoke tension to pull the rim into "true" This will sorta work with a bicycle wheel, but not with a motorcycle wheel. This will create a fragile and failure prone wheel due to the uneven spoke tension required to force the out of round rim into true alignment..
Uncle G Has hit the nail on the head I do believe. Coulda` and shoulda` marked the wheel as it's likely the same spokes that are failing. The wheel probably was untrue from the get go and pulling it into alignment with the spokes can cause spoke failure. I'd get a new wheel and some Buchanan's Twisted Spokes if it were me. Matter of fact those Buchanan wheels are pretty good as well....
