It really depends on what you are looking to achieve, or do you have an issue you are trying to cure? Just buying a kit doesn't guarantee you get everything you need for all situations. The stock CV carb is very tunable and friendly, a simple rejet cures alot of ills and picks up the performance.
Well i have had a few problems with it running smooth and maintaining idle. Was running fine but something happened and now it won't run unless the choke is at least half way out and backfires and pops something awful. After changing my plugs first and that didn't work Im going to take the carb off this weekend and clean it and check all the gaskets as well as the main and pilot jets. Im also going to try and check the intake manifold gasket too. Just trying to get a little bit more out of the performance since I am going to have the carb off this weekend, thought it would be a good time to install it.
I noticed the thunderslide kit comes with the light weight slide and the Harley performance kit doesn't. Really wondering which one is the better bang for my buck type thing.

Just trying to squeeze a little more out of stock carb. It was rejetted to the exhaust and air cleaner professionally about 3 years ago but something happened and now runs like crap.
Well, if it was running good for you and now it's not and you have not done anything, then your carb jetting and set-up is OK. Personally, if I have an issue I try to resolve that before I do any modifications, that way I only have to look in one direction if things don't work out. In your case I'd check the intake gaskets (3) and take the carb apart for a thorough cleaning, make sure the diaphram is OK and spray out everything. After 3-4 years I'm betting on dirt being the culprit. Once you get it running the way it was you can start tuning for max performance but you should have a good baseline to start with.
You don't need a carb kit; the CV carb is fine just as is. If you want to modify, follow advice from MNFatboy and Doug S; both have provided sound advice. If you insist on a carb kit, the Dynojet kit will kill your mileage.
Sounds like you may have another issue that is causing the problem. So many times, guys start making mofications to resolve an issue rather than identify the issue and address it. Then things get really complicated and you wind up chasing your tail. JMHO.
