Default Best Big Bore / Cam for FLSTC?

I am thinking about adding some hp this winter. My favorite indy (he was head wrench at a now closed HD dealership) has recommended a Screaming Eagle 103" stage II kit with a 255 cam. He gave me an estimate for $1720.00 installed with dyno tune.
I have several questions....

1) Is this the best kit out there on a price vs performance basis?
2) are there other kits / setups I should be looking into? ( I would consider having to spend a little more to get something noticeably better.)
3) Is this the best use of my money performance wise? (I have read about people getting good power with a 96" and a 211 cam...)

I ride 2 up maybe 40% of the time and ride loaded for bear (2 up with luggage) maybe 10% of the time. I don't do burn outs (Tires cost too much!). I am looking for god usable power and good reliability.

So lets hear what you think....

I run the 203 in my 95" build. That being said, I will swap them out next time I get the urge to take things apart again with some sort of Andrews, maybe the 21, 26 or 37. I see a lot of guys selling the 255 cams. I think you can find something better. Also check out the thread by fuel moto about their install with the Woods night crawler cam. It has full dyno charts and is rather impressive. I think it's in the touring section.

I have not yet dynoed my bike since the 95 build, but will be in about 2 weeks. Are you getting headwork for that price too? Is he getting you the actual se kit or boring your heads? Find all of this out first. There is nothing too complicated about a build like this, I'd do it myself with a friend. Plenty of help available here on the forums too.

I think there are better kits than Screamin Eagle out there. But, you sacrifice your warranty (if that's important to you). The SE255 cam will make in the ballpark of 82-85hp/ 102-105tq with no headwork in a 103" engine. Maybe just a tick more, since you have a Thunder Header exhaust. If that's enough for you, then great......but let me tell you this- power is ADDICTIVE! I started out with that combo, and made a lot of changes, before going to a 113".

If you are running a stock 96", you will like the upgrade but there are better options IMHO. The price is fair but you are not getting any special treatment. You can order the kit from a discount H-D dealer for about $700. You could save some money if you bored your cylinders and bought pistons/rings and cams. Woods, Andrews and TMan all make cams that will perform better than the 255. Woods 6, Andrews 54 or TMans' 555 but they all need to be setup properly with the right compression which may require shaving a bit off your heads. You should select a cam that will delivery power where you want it and build around the cam. Hang on to you Theader, it will help whatever cam you choose.

You did not mention what fuel management system you were running; what he will tune with?

Lots of kits out there. Look at Reveloution Performance web site. When you are there you can look at there dyno charts and see what cams/ehaust they used in there builds. I like there jugs as they are the diamond ones. If you go that route make sure you clean them very well first. Ask DR. Vtwin if he can get them for you or any kit you go with.

I can get you Revolution Performance. I almost got that kit myself, but the money was too much at the time. I can get you S&S Screaming eagle, etc....
