Forget that dealer. Find a different one. If there isn't any other dealers in your area then order your new pipes on eBay along with a manual for your bike and install the pipes your self. As stated before there is plenty of people here to help you. You can change just your pipes and run fine. You just won't get any power gains out of it. But it will deffinitly change the sound.
I run Amsoil 20W-50 in the engine. Just got an oil analysis done by Blackstone Labs. Pricey 25.00 but worth the data. Oil is in great shape at 3K. Changing it out tom. My dealer promotes syn oil, syn3 of course, but sells and will install Amsoil as well.
Dealers are costly, but if you develop a relationship with the service manager good things can happen. It may not offset all of the higher costs but it can save you money as well.
I had an electronic part that when bad after the 90 days was up. Dealer is replacing it under warranty, a good will measure. Saved my 100.00. Just got lucky having a good guy/dealer I can use.
Without even reading the post my original answer was "Yes"
After reading the post my answer is a definite "Yes"
I have read that you cant run synthetic oil till after the break in period but not being able to run it at all is straight ****.Unless you change your air intake or exhaust output a large amount you shouldn't need to do a tune or anything.
with the new engines, my oil temp would hit 300, i think that dino oil would break down at that temp, well it wouldnt go 5000 miles before an oil change i know that much...i run 2 1/2 qts of ams oil and a 1/4 lucas additive...never get above 250*, and thats on a hot traffic day.............
If you call V&H they will probably recommend that you get a fuel manager too. Different people have different opinions, doesn't mean they're lying. You don't need an a/c upgrade but if you're getting pipes and a computer flash/fuel manager it's seem logical to kill two birds with one stone. Dealer may have just been giving you good advice as he saw it.
Can't imagine why he would tell you not to run syn in a 2010 engine. I suspect there may have been a misunderstanding there. Lot of people do recommend sticking with dyno during breakin.
In any case I wouldn't have a dealer do anything to my bike I could do myself. Mine charges $85 an hour so you won't see my bike in their shop very often.
