The level in the tank with the bike upright should be about 1/2 inch below the filler neck on a Softail.
Forget about the dipstick, it is worthless. Eyeball it and you will be fine.
Don`t add oil before running the engine for a few minutes, until all the oil is scavenged from the crankcases.
why Hd dont' put in a sight glass like most sport bikes. Add it to the right side so ez to read on the side stand and upright!!
now youjust need to know its level sitting on the stand to read consistently. after running a short while to get oil circulating. Just like a car. !!
