so did you get it? if you didn't find another one. I am willing to bet that guy is just jealous! either he simply doesn't have the money to buy what he wants, or his wife won't let him, or he wants to be the only one at work with a harley or something stupid like that. BUY ONE and Ride Brotha! you WONT be sorry.
I'd go for a street glide if I were you, as they handle as good or better than does a softail. Take it from one who went from a softail to a street glide. Go for an 09, as they are the first year of the new frame and the last year without the cat in the head to deal with..
Touring bikes do handle better. The Street Glide though, with the shorty shocks doesn't ride any better than a Softail (if as good). The two I've demo'd (an 07 & an 09) both had stiffer susp than my Heritage.
And the heat coming off that 09 . . . Terrible. Un believable actually.
The softails are solid. They maybe don't go into corners the way a touring bike do, but if you know the bike's limits, you'll never get into trouble. If you buy an '08 or newer touring, make sure you buy the kit for the rear end. Those bikes actually do have a "quirk". As for the floorboards scrapping on the softails, that's how you know when to stop leaning your bike further into a turn. It only scares you the first few times...
I've owned Japanese, Brit, Italian bikes for almost 40 yrs. Now my 1st HD, FLSTC. Suprised by the pleasant handling. Scraped the floor board on the first ride-but I've gotten use to the limits and really like the handling, believe it or not.
