Just curious if anyone else has dealt with this. I have the 6 inch straight risers of which I bought from an HD dealership back home. I always keep em nice and clean and use chrome polish and protectant on them, along with everything else, at least a few times a year. I'd hate to have to plunk down another $130 for a set, but it looks like my options may be limited. I suppose I could try some sort of chrome touch up paint, but I'm afraid it would turn out looking kinda cheesy. And of course, the part that's flaking off it in the front, dead in the middle (go figure). So, just thought I would share with the group, and see what you think.
Get your checkbook out....I do not know if you can do anything that would satisfy you but buy new ones. I would let the dealer know what happened...maybe just maybe they would cut you a deal or something...I know i would not be satisfied until they were perfect again..
Sucks when chrome flakes, but don't try to fix it with the cheesy paint. Go get some from somewhere besides an OH_FISH_HULL HD shop. If you stick with a reputable aftermarket company, the quality will be good, and the price lower.
I have heard of this type of thing plenty of times before and most companies will not warrantee chrome. Especially if you have had the item awhile. Some good dealers will turn it in as new if they do a lot of business with the supplier they can get away with it. I have heard that kuryakyn chrome will do this type of thing
If you can't get a replacement from the dealer (which is highly possible) and you are going to spend some money on new ones, I would first treat the flaked ones to see if you can chrome 'em back. This IS possible. I've worked with chrome suppliers and specialists in the past as a Supplier Quality Engineer (security parts for VW).
You can get good ones and less expensive from some other aftermarket catalog if this does not work fine for you.
Thanks for all the input guys. I've had em for around a year and a half, and as far as contacting the dealer, I'm SOL cause it's back home in DAGO. I guess next time I'll go the aftermarket route!
