backfire problems.
last night I jumped on the bike for a short ride and it was backfiring like crazy. (from exhaust & carb). It also seemed to be popping air. It ran fine when I parked it last wednesday. It also seems to idle fine, just when I hit the throttle is when it starts backfiring. I looked in my hd owners manual to try and trouble shoot it but that didnt do much good. Just wondering if anyone can give me some pointers.

figures it would screw up when the weather is supposed to be nice here in indiana...[:@]
one other thing, does this year bike have points? I couldnt seem to find them anywhere in the manual.

Your mixture is not good. I had the same symptoms the day I tried to re-jet the bike by myself... Could no make a block with less than 10 detonations...
I'm no pro towards carburation.
Good luck.

Suggest you pull the plugs and take a look at the color. They will tell you a lot. Black and sooty, too much fuel. Should be nice brown color. Plug could be fouled out. Could be some bad gas. Other than that I would see the dealer. Bad sensors can do a lot of mean things.
