By the way, the four things I didn't like about the RK classic was the passanger pillion (looks more like a Cotex than a seat), they mounted the shocks where the saddle bags are supposed to go (sacraficing allot of storage space), the motor acted like it wanted to jump out of the frame at and off idle, and the somewhat faux exhaust system (left pipe is more for looks then to route exhaust).
What I didn't like about the Heritage was no locking saddle bags (hasn't been an issue yet), and no cruise control (available to install for a premium, but wouldn't use it anyhow).
If HD made a Heritage with locking saddle bags and cruise control, I would be in HOG heaven!!!
What I really get a kick out of is all the complaints on the touring forum, usually relating to the stereo not working, or some electronic gizmo giving them fits. Who cares? It still rides, doesn't it?

I had a hell of a time trying to decide between the Heritage Classic and the RK Classic. Only thing I knew for sure was I wanted leather bags, I dont like plastic! So I rented both bikes spent a few hours on each and when it was all done I picked the Heritage. I thought it handled better just my opionon.I have some work to do on her but it'll get there! I'm going to put a chrome swingarm , brake caliper and quick release saddlebag brackets then when I take the bags off and backrest I'll have a completly differnt bike in matter of minutes

That my friend, is probably the greatest attribute of the Heritage, its versitilty. It can go from a full blown touring bike to a cruiser in a matter of minutes. I haven't purchase a quick release for the bags yet. I'm torn between the ghost bracket and Bubba's quick release hardware. Guess I'm back to whether to lock or not, as Bubba's don't, yet offer a far cleaner look than the ghost bracket. Let me know what you decide on, and post your picks!

Already decided that one. I'm going with Bubba's going to get the quick release saddlebag brackets along with the quick release sideplate for the sissy bar and luggage rack. I dont care if you can lock them or not thats not a concern of mine I like the nice clean look you get with Bubba's setup although a bit costly but I think you get what you pay for. I had the ghost braket setup on a Kawasaki Vulcan Classic 1500 that I once had and I didnt like it I sold it on E-bay after about a month just did'nt like it

Bubba's it is! I'm not locking anyhow. I'm still uncertain if Bubba's saddle bag quick release will work with the HD sissy bar quick release and passanger floor boards. I tried emailing them, with no reply. Guess I'll have to call and get the full skinny. If you have any info, please let me know.

Hey geo it seems we have this debate alot. I was torn between the RK clasic and the Heritage as well, I just didn't like the shake at idle I ride back and forth to work and some 150 -300 mile trips and The Heritage has been the perfect bike. All the stop and go trafic to work that shaking would suck. If I could go for weeks at a time I may get a bagger I don't think that many people ride like that. They buy a bagger and go 5k a year around town wrong choice for me. If your retired and go 30k a year may be the way to go. As for handling just did sturgis needle's highway and alway felt like I was pushing baggers especially the Gold Wings they sucked on the twisties. I didn't mean to push but the Heritage just sailed thru the twisties I was amased. I will say the crotch rockets do way better. And I do feel a slight vibration at 75 but baggers make it sound like the bike is coming apart and it's more like you have to look for it to feel it. And I think the power is the same no difference. I was getting my new injectors put in at the Dealer and A man was ther getting his third set of pipes on his 2006 streetglide they keep breaking on him. I wonder if that is from the wind since thay are so much faster. I have never heard that from softails owners it may happen but you don't here it like in the touring section things breaking and falling off. I like all of them as well. Tom

Tom: you are right about that shaking. That is another thing I did'nt like the rubber mounted engine It was ok once you got it rolling but sitting at a traffic light it would hammer and shake, mirrors would vibrate damn I though something would have to come loose. I thought if you were going to be doing any in town riding that would get old pretty damn fast.

Glad to here your getting the new injectors. You will be astonished at the difference. Make sure they put the right map into your ECM for your configuration. If you have stage one with performance exhaust, you'll want the "race" download. I actually got better mileage with the race download and 25* injectors than I did with the "street legal" download and 8* injectors. Performance is improved at low to mid RPM with little difference at high RPM, but off idle performance is way better.
I agree about the vibration. Baggers tend to make a big issue out of the Softail "vibes" at high RPM. I get a slight buzz above 70 mph, but it's no where near as annoying as the shake and vibration out of the TC88A at and off idle. Baggers can keep their plastic and electronic gizmo's, I'll take steel, chrome, and leather any day. If I want tunes when I'm cruizing, I plug in my MP3 and break the law (who cares?). The sound of an mp3 through headphones is way better than a stock HD stereo anyhow. Usually, I just enjoy the music of my TC88B pushing through my SE II slip-ons (music to my ears).
Your right about twisties, a soft suspension tends to give too much through the corners causing "fade". A stiff suspension, like the Softail, will hold the road and pull through the corners with much more authority. No doubt, an HD can't hold a candle to a "rice rocket", but that's not why we ride, is it? Best of both worlds, buy an HD for long haul cruising, and a rice rocket for those times that you feal like breaking the speed barrier with your pants on fire. Personally, I'm to old for the rice rocket crap and will stick to cruising at or near the speed limit in style.
Peace!!!
