I bought a 2006 softail standard. It has a stage one aircleaner with Vance & Hines pipes & a cobra efi tuner. It runs excellent, but I only get about 30 miles per gallon. Is this normal. I was expecting atleast 40. Should I be worried that something isn't right?

I consistently get 38-42 mpg with my carbed '06. Others say they get better but mine is consistent. I'll take it!!
I am not familiar with that tuner but I went to the below site and it is very easy to set up. It also gives you some base settings for the 3 pots based on what your setup is. This will allow you to compare the settings you currently have to what the initial settings are. That mileage is pretty low without a cam and other mods.
I'm running a similar set-up on my '09' Heritage with a PC-V. Just checked the mpg yesterday and it was 43.4. Does sound like you're running rich. Are your pipes sooty inside?
Could be right, it all depends on the tuning that was done. If it was set up for maximum "Ummpf" then you will have a low gas milage. If it was set up for economy then your number is way off.
Then add into that mix ypour right hand twitch and where you are riding (city, highway, long distance) and you will get a better idea of what to expect.
I run high airflow, 103, true duals and in the city to and from work I barely get much over 30mpg but on country road runs I easily get well over 40 if not even into the 50 mpg.
