I have an 05 CVO fat boy and at speed above 65 mph the blast I get from the wind is terrible. I have ridden my buddies Dyna and another buddies sportster the same day and both of those bikes are very managable at higher speeds. I don't want a windshield but may have to get one. I love the look without one. Why does my Fat Boy beat you up so bad. I have been riding for 35 years and come from sport bikes so I know what wind blast feels like but this just sucks. My last bike was an MV Agusta 910s no fairing going 100 mph on it feel the same as going 65 on the Harley.
I agree. I got a detachable windshield for just that reason. Around town it still looks great but can snap the shield on if I anticipating going over 60 for extneded periods of time.
Yeah, 60-65 is my comfortable range, as well. 75-80 is fun for awhile, but it's difficult to keep that pace for any significant amount of time, because of wind buffeting. There's still no way I'm adding a windshield, tho.
I did about 70-75 for 5 minutes on Sunday and my ears hurt....like the actual insides of my ears! At 40-50, I'm fine though. I should really buy a helmet.
Honestly i have a good guess to why its so much differant than the other bikes you have rode that i discovered today. could be wrong tho. its probably the housing around your tripple trees causing the wind to blast up torwards your face as to where the other bikes the wind passes through it. i was on my way to work today and i have a night train but had a hoodie bungied up above my headlight and it was causing the wind to beat the **** outta me hon the highway where normally its not bad. i dunno its just a guess
Type of bars make a big difference to your position on the bike and how you take the wind blast. When I was running fatboy bars I felyt like a "sail" that caught all the wind at highway speed.... switched out to drag bars and that helped, then switched out to 12" apes and feels even less of a problem.
Try different bars. Or as someone else said get a windshield.
