Default Cam question for Standard/NightTrains solo

Hi Guys,

My Indy ( I am guessing this is the cool way to say 'mechanic' ). is telling me to put Andrews 37N on my bike (FXST and I ride solo mostly).

I was looking for 21 or 26 due to the fact that I like to let the tire loose at traffic lights, and my bike never touches 4000 RPM ) I mean rarely.

But he claims that the 'real difference' will happen with the 37.

I am wondering.. what is your input ? I really am only doing this as part of my Conversion to Hydraulic Chains and new Oil Pump. so I figured the new cam should go in as well.

I hear some talk of a 'Ngear' that gets put to shift the power curve, I am not sure what that is, and if Andrews makes it or not ? I only hear about it with Woods cams which is not an option here for money factors.

So.. I am going Andrews as I have a good price on the kit, just looking for experience you guys had with 37 vs. 26 and 21 on light bikes , Customs, NT's, Standards, Deuces.

For your lighter bike and if it is still an 88", 26's for sure. 37's require more compression and move the power curve further to the right. 21's work great in an 88" for lower tq and 2up.

As you already know Klf... I have the 37G's same, same but gear driven... I like them man I can still smoke the tire leaving the lights if I want no problem, but the mid and topend is killer... Now the only reason I went with the 37's is in the future I plan to do a 95" and didn't want to buy new cams when I do it, thats where the 37's work good with both a 88" and even better with a 95"... If I was wanting to stay with the 88" I would have went with the 26's for sure... Cause they come in earlier and I think you would get more torque on the lowend although I've never tried them? All I can say is I'm very happy with my 37's.

i replaced the cam chain tensioners on my bike last winter. while i had it apart & since i was saving $ doing the work myself, i decided to throw a set of cams in there.

i went with the andrews 26a cams - chain driven.

now, the bike was apart for a while so i hadn't ridden it in a few months by the time i got it all together in the spring and i was riding a faster bike in the meantime - but i really did not notice much of a gain - even after rejetting.

if your indy is reputable, it might be a good idea to trust him & try the 37's.

afterall, the 26's do not have any more lift than the oem cams. not sure about duration, but if it's more with the 26's over stock, it's not much.

37 it is then.. who am I to question Story , O/D thanks a million, that is what my Indy said really, he said if you want to notice a difference on a light bike, go for the 37.

And I know .. once the wedding is done and the expenses heat come down eventually, she will let me get 95" juggs.. .. I am going to say "Honey, one of the two of you is getting bigger Jugs , your call " LOL

Haha... and you would be happy with either set...

Like I said before I luv my cams, but many will tell you cams by itself don't give you much... as you need the heads to make them work really good, but just like most of us I gotta wait and save for these things.
