Default Bobtail Fender Rack................

I have a 2003 Night Train and I just got a fender Rack. Looks like I'm going to have to drill two holes in the black plastic just below my tail light in order to rigidly mount it.

Is that how it's supposed to be installed? I don't have the little directions that usually come with H-D parts.

Hmmmmmm?

Wow! Nobody here has a Softail with a fender rack? I'm suprised.

I have a rack on my 06 standard.

Yes, you have to drill a couple of holes.

I can e-mail you a copy of the install sheet that came with my rack.

I just got done researching the rack at H-D.com and I do have the correct rack for my model. I was just looking at it again and it looks like I'll have to drop the tail light assembly.

Thanks for the help!

Here is my little help: yes you have to drill 2 holes but do not use the big washer that comes under the fender to screw the rack. Everytime you have to remove the seat this washer drops down. Use the stock one with the screw that comes with the kit, discard the rest.

Kinda a dark picture in a dirty garage, but here is the one I just put on. yup gotta drill those holes. wasn't too thrilled at first, but it looks like with the rack off you won't really notice them.

also just put the sundowner on for my wife. sure don't like the look as well, but that badlander will go on just fine when I get the new bracket for it.

I have an 07 Softail Custom and ordered the rack for it, should be in any day. I also want to "upgrade" the tailight to the Tribar LED version.
Has anyone put a rack on a bike with the factory LED tailight? Will it fit, and do you have to drill holes in that also?

Odd that they don't mention drilling any holes in the catalog. Stranger still to me is that you need to drill any holes. I was under the impression (obviously wrong) that except for big bore engine parts virtually all of their cataloged parts were "plug and play" things.

Thanks
