Default Oil spot again!!!

A while back I posted that I had found an oil spot on the floor below the swing arm on my fatboy. I checked the vent hose that runs in front of the splash guard and it had oil in end of it as well. The spot is only dime-size. Anyway, I checked my oil level and found that it was right on the "Full Hot" line. From reading on the forums, it seemed my oil level was a bit too high and as a result oil was blowing out of the vent hose. So I drained a few ounces out (the level was still well within operating range on the dipstick) and it hasn't leaked since. Last weekend I checked my oil and added about 4 ounces. The next time i rode it (yesterday), the spot is back.

My question is, is this something I need to have checked?
Or is this an issue that will fix itself. It seems that if the oil level is a tad too high, as it blows out it will get to the appropriate level?

I want to emphasize, this does not appear to be "leak", it is a small spot on the floor and only happens once in a while. There is no sign of oil blowing back under the bike when I am riding and there is not a big pool of oil on the floor.

Good looking bike Warg!

You said it was at the very top of the full hot line and you droped the level a couple ounces and the problem was gone and then you added more and the problem was beack then I would say drop it back down. The range stick is jsut as it says, ( a range stick) Yes it should not be at the higher area of the range rather than the lower but range does not mean fill to the top line. I see most that fill to the top line over fill. I say go back to your adjusted level and as long as its at the higher end og the range they you are golden!!!

Just my .02

I'd have it checked by the dealer next time you're in for regular service. Since you're still under warranty it sure can't hurt.

I noticed a spot under my '04 FatBoy one day after a long ride. Just a small spot and the oil level hadn't dropped at all. I found another spot in my garage several weeks later, again after a long ride. The spot appeared to be somewhere under the inner primary and there was a slight smear of oil on the underside of the primary case as well. Had the dealer look at it while in for service and he found a bad seal somewhere in the inner primay. The dealer fixed it under warranty and I was sure glad that I didn't ignore it since it turned out to be a pretty lengthy repair.

Better to err on the safe side than get blind sided by an expensive repair down-stream. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
