I don't know why I don't have the nuts to do any work on this thing. I think its because I've never owned a bike.
Thats exactly my point. You paid to have something done you could do yourself. As far as tune I got a great "real tune" for $300 I think it was. May have even been a tad cheaper.
Believe me, if I can work on this thing anyone can. Im about as dumb as they come. Either way, get the manual. Start doing little things at first and work up.
If you can read and follow directions one step at a time then you can work on it. I wouldn't recommend throwing new cams in there day one but putting on the exhaust and a/c is simple.
Even though they did it for "free", the engine guard you could have done. Why? If nothing else that's about as simple as it gets and it gets you in there and start wrenching it.
Not only does wrenching save you a few bucks but it gives you pride in your bike. Cleaning it is one thing but saying "I did that" is another (and not meaning "I paid someone to do that")
Not trying to come down on you but just trying to give you confidence I guess.
Again, If I can do it you can. And hell, if you ever get stuck this is a great place. Someone on here has been stuck in that same place before. This place is a wealth of knowledge.

I like the fact that if anything happens with anything that I had done....its technically on them to fix it. I would like to do my own work, but by the time I buy all of the tools and a nice jack, I would rather let someone more qualified then me work on my bike. For now anyways......

Another mistake, thinking the dealer techs are more qualified than you. I know there are good ones but even so, they don't have the affection for your bike that you do and they do make careless mistakes. Another mistake is assuming that any mistake is on the dealer tech which is not necessarily true. Dealer techs are loathe to take responsibility for their mistakes and will often times blame the owner.

As for your deal, if the tune is a true tune which will require 30-40 pulls, or more, than your deal is nothing to write home about but not a total dealer ripoff. You could have saved some money though to perform some very basic mechanical tasks. The service manual isn't worth the $$ without the tools and the willingness to take on regulare maintenance. Start with fluid/filter changes and work up to more challenging projects, like pulling wheels for tire changes, brakes, cable changes, etc. Believe me, you can do it.

Nicky, sometimes it best just to read the forum and not to post. Cost for repairs, parts ect. sometimes depends on the area you live in as some dealers feel there work is superior and charge as such.

If you feel you got a good price then be happy.. don't second guess yourself on this by asking forum members.... esp. when it comes to money and cost issues..

I prefer not to bleed for no one but myself and won't post anthing I have doubts about.. So if you like being beat down then ask the questions but if you don't want to hear the answer, then don't ask!

Just my opnion and some simple advise..

There are bikers, posers, blingers. Pick your postion and stick with it! I'm a poser... I think...

Sorry, didnt realize this was such a sensitive crew.

Ill take back everything I said before. I realized after posting that it was a horrible business decision for me to post my last post. I believe everyone, except myself, should take their bikes to harley to have all maintenance, light bulb changes, and to top off any and all fluids, etc.. Please dont do this yourself. As a stock holder I do appreciate those who take their bikes in.

I do most of my work my self but, At least $300 for the dyno run. $230 for the mustache bars. Thats $530. Thats $370 for the install of the pipes, sert, and A/C plus the 1000mile service. Thats not too bad a deal. The shop has to make a profit.
