Hello. I have a 2007 FXST Softail Standard. I am looking to but 14" apehanger bars with the 1 1/4" width so I can run the cables inside the bars. I will be putting them on 1" risers. My question is what size throttle, brake, clutch, and electrical lines will I need for this project? +2, +4, or +6 inch? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
What type bars are stock on your bike? buckhorns or drags?
I have an 05 FXST. It had drag bars on 6" risers, I put on 16" apes on a 1 inch riser and I think (can't remember for sure) that I did +10". I could have gone 2 inch shorter on the brake and clutch, but the throttle and idle cables were perfect. To run you cables inside the bars you will probably need more length than you think. I bought my cables from Hill County Customs, they were cool to deal with on the phone.
I bought a package from hcc on egay for a nice cheap price that had all wires and cables for the job, I did it that way to save me the hassle of getting peace by peace and figuring measurements. Alot of people have used HCC and they have a good reputation, i highly recommend there kits, I'd definately do it through egay though because i have heard of people paying way more then i did through them. but you just tell them your year model and height you want they put the package together
Awesome guys. I appreciate the advice. I took a look and did some camparing and HCC has the best deal I can find. My only question is, and I'm sure I'll need to ask HCC, is the clutch safety switch that needs to be installed on the left side switches for 2007 and up models. What is that?
not sure i f anyone answered your question about the clutch saftey swithc, but it is a little button on the controls that stops you from starting th ebike while it is in gear. Something they started putting on harleys a couple years back
When I was hunting for my bar swap, my local wrench said to stay away from HCC. He said he had had nothing but problems with any of their kits that he installed. There have been a good number of guys on here though that have used them with success. I went with 14" apes and was +6 on everything I believe. The numbers indicate extra length over stock. I believe the magnum shielding page has a deal where you put in your bike and it brings up the stock replacement cable and also +2, +4, +6 etc. Or you could make it super easy and do like someone else mentioned.
