Default From 11" pullback drags to 14" apes...will my cables work?

Hi all. Just picked up a 2000 NT, and started modding. I added 3" forward control extensions which really helped feeling less cramped. I'm 6'2"

Now, I need to do something about my bars. They crowd me also.

I have 32" wide and 11" rise pullback internally wired 1.25" drag bars with braided lines. Lots of slack in the front brake and throttle cables. Not so much in the clutch. All of my cables are routed through chrome holders/dividers on the riser section of the bars so they have some extra length available taking that into account. How long are the stock cables, anyone know? I can measure mine once I take them off to figure out how much longer they installed.

I'm 6'2", so deciding on 14 or 16/17" apes. Would like to reuse my cables if possible. I'm sure I'll have to lengthen the electrical wires either way.

Thinking Carlini Pist Apes, Outlawz or something along those lines. Been looking at the ape hanger **** thread...that is a dangerous place to venture!!

Doubtful

I will add this, mount the bars then use a string to get the correct route and measurement. You can also double solder the wiring splice connections or get the wire extensions and only have one solder point which I prefer.

Reason I say use the string to route and measure is for the accurate size...nothing worse than new bars and cable that werent measured just guessed at.

How much slack do you think it takes? I figure if they are 4-5" taller overall with a shorty riser, they are straight up rather than pulled back, and not routed to the risers to be neatly divided....there should be some room, no?

My bars are actually over 11" end rise, and nearly 12" pullback based on Wild1 measuring methods. 31.5" wide.

I've never seen taller or more pulled back drag bars...I'm surprised they don't look more goofy than they do actually. PO was pretty short.

I hear ya on that, I guess the purpose of my post was whether or not to hope that 14's would work with what I have, or just get 16/17's if I'm buying cables either way.

I think the only way I will know is to take my tank off and start measuring stuff, and compare it to stock, see what I'm actually working with before spending any dough.

I just hate taking chances and ape hangers are already a big IF on whether or not they are worth it as I've never tried a set. I do know I had a sore back in my younger years on my Sporty Custom with straight drag bars...I'm not any younger, and I like the bars on it now if I could just move them further away. All roads point to Apes....just how high.
