Default Dimming lights

I was coming home tonight and I noticed my lights getting real dim then would brighten back up. It did it also on bright light too. I would turn off my aux. lights and still my head light would go dim. I have an '08 fatboy and this is the 1st time in a while that I rode at night so I don't know how long it has been doing it. This is the original battery and I am pretty sure it is needing to be replaced soon. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Any help would be appreciated.

Off the top of my head have the charging system checked. May be the stator going bad.

Check the battery cables to make sure they are tight...

That was my first thought. A loose ground will certainly cause this.

if it dims and then bright i would say loose cable first but 08 would have a 3 or 4 year old battery depending on when the bike was made. my 07 was made 6/6/06 and battery acted up at 3 year from that date. a bad battery can make your charging system go bad.

Just went through this with my Dyna. After watching the dealer mechanic run thorugh his "checklist" and then replace the voltage regulator in hopes that that would fix it. I took my battery and battery box out to find the battery connection on the starter and the two main ground connection to the frame had corrosion on them. I cleaned them up, and no more intermittant dimming. And the bike starts faster now also.
Must have been that frog strangling flood I drove home in a couple months ago. I even had water in the horn.
