Default engine/battery lights on

i replaced my battery on my 2005 heritage, a couple of months ago, and have had a few small rides since, well today on a long ride at about 190 miles, when i came up to a stop light, i noticed the engine (orange) and the battery (red), lights were on i switched the passing lights off and first the red light went out and then the orange, after a short while i switched the passing lights back on and within minutes the lights returned so i switched the passing lights off and the orange and red went out, when we pulled over to wave goodbye to friends we noticed that the headlight was a sick shade of yellow. after getting home the battery tender was reading 12.6v anyone got any ideas what the cause could be.?
