Default engine/battery lights on

i have a 2005 heritage and the battery was replaced approx 2 months ago and i completed a 170 mile ride with no trouble, but today at approx 190 miles when stopping at a red light i noticed the engine (orange) and the battery (red) lights were on, the ones in the speedo, i switched off the passing lamps and first the red light went out shortly followed by the orange when i increased the revs, after approx 5 miles i thought i would switch the passing lamps back on just to see if it was a fluke, and the warning lights returned, so switched off the passing lamps untill i got home, battery was reading below 12.5v but the bike still started, anyone any ideas what to look for?

Sounds like it could be a Rotor/Stator issue. I'm assuming when you checked the battery voltage when you returned that you checked you battery connections where tight.

If its nothing that simple I suggest reading this how to:

sounds like either your voltage regulator, stator, or both.

Would check voltage regulator first as I have heard that they go bad quite often. Good luck.
