title says it all....oil is good(although ready to be changed)....bike starts and runs fine but, after riding a block or two the battery and (check)engine lights come on....my owners manual has nothing to offer as far as troubleshooting,so...I ask the smart folks here...any ideas as to why this is??
forgot to mention....2008 883L

Sounds like a charging problem. With the motor at a fast idle, use a voltmeter to measure between the + battery terminal and ground. You should have between 13.5 - 14.8vdc. If it's less than 13.5vdc you probably have a bad stator, regulator, or both.
thanks for your responses everyone ....Badger how does one go about checking the code?? cHarley, after the voltmeter test,is there a way to pinpoint which(if any) part is the culprit(stator or regulator)?? Again, thanks for your help...I think its time to buy a service manual
when I start the bike its not on but, when I get about a block down the road the batt. & eng. light come on and stay on.RPM's make no difference... Is the eng. light coming on because the batt. light is on?
badger, thanks for the link in my PM..

Still waiting for you to check the voltage across the battery with the bike at a fast idle. There is no point in playing any more guessing games until then.

same problem i had. soon your battery will not charge...
you have a charging problem i assume just like all the other posts. probably a bad stator or something...thats what was wrong with my bike.
