I'm contemplating changing the exhaust on my '03 Fatboy to a 2 into 1. I've seen the Fatcat, V&H, and samson. Like the look of the Fatcat and Samson the most. Curious what will give better performance (probably not noticeable enough for me, could be a moot point). Also what do I need to do to the bike if I change exhaust? I will probably be changing air cleaner as well. What do I need to do to my carb? Is this whole process something a reasonably mechanical adept person could do on their own?
to get it running real well you will want to rejet the carb. If you are reasonably mechanically adept and have a service manual, you should be fine. The Fat Cat is a sweet exhaust. There is a video on here of drew's bike with that exhaust.
Here is my fatcat video. I noteiced an extreme difference in power when I installed this pipe. that being said all 2 into 1 pipes should yield quite a difference. There are plenty of great 2 into 1's on the market but I am a tried and true D&D man myself. I am going to be getting some new videos today as well. I'll get one of just the exhaust for you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ftn7yqCXig

Put on a Thunderheader like mine, if you have a carbed bike (I do) you won't believe it's mellow, deep sound at idle... It's the best sounding/performing exhaust I've owned.

Dr,Dr.........., I like your license plate frame with the built in turn signals, how much are they if I get them from you shipped to Stockton 95207 ?
LOL, no disrespect intended, Stockton CA? You were very damn close to be able to get your weed shipped to you, I´m pretty damn sure you can have your bike parts ringing you door bell The Doc will fix you up.

Mimo.
I'm not a giant fan of the look of the thunderheader..though I could be looking at the wrong pipes, their website is not the most user friendly place. Pipes just don't look beefy enough...that's why I like the look of the Samson and the Fatcat, the V&H look just doesn't' fit with the classic look of the softail line IMO.
If it's all about looks, then you're not mistaken, it's design lines kind of grow in you after all the compliments about sound and once you feel them perform. I didn't like them either, I trusted the guy in the parts dept. at HD Las Vegas and have not regret my descision. Yes, their site is poor, but believe me, they are worth every penny. Have you seen Fat Cats on drag bikes? They are OEM exhaust equipment in more than one bike builder that puts big engines in their frames. To each his own. I'm using mine 'til they rot, and as today I have not found a different pipe to replace the current set (the closest thing is a custom made 2-1 LSR-1)
I love this next one, if this is not blending with the bike's design lines, then I'm totally lost
