New to the forum,
I'm new to HD but have ridden before. Looking to buy a bike to ride with my 65yr father who's been riding for better than 10 years. zeroed in on the Rocker C. Seems to fit me well and is more suited to the look and amount of distance riding I see myself doing. Weekends, early evenings and poker runs.
Question:
I found a 2009 Rocker C at new at a local dealer. All the salesman will quote me is 2011 list pricing. How much should I be able to negotiate with them? They say an 11 is 19,500. I sell large sport fish boats for a living and I can tell you that we would discount an 09 nearly 25% to get it off the floor plan. This dealer said they bought it as distressed inventory from another dealer but only indicated that they woudl discount it to about 18K. Our Morotcycle market is strong here and this is a respected dealer that i wouldlike to form a relationship with. If I could buy new for a little more than used I would. Used 08's are going for about 13 to 14.5K ask. What should I expect from the dealer on a new 09?
Thanks David
Thanks,
Dealer is at about 17K with me on the new 09. I think they are still a little strong for a 2 model year old bike, but at least I know they are willing to discount somthing.
Alot depends on where you live. Here on Long Island the dealers will not discount bikes very much at all. There are 3 dealers in my county and they all have the same attitude regarding discounting and none of them let you test drive bikes.
I find it amazing that even in our weakened economy that HD dealers still don't want to deal much. If you busted them down $1,500 that's pretty darned good! Luckily the bike hasn't changed much since it's inception. Get what you can though because they seem to have the attitude that they are doing US a favor by letting us buy from them! Also, there are good deals on ebay for very slightly used rockers. I ride an '09 and think you'll be very happy with it. I think I gave 18,500 in Sept of '08 (just to give you an idea of what they were at the time)
There have been some significant upgrades in the electrics of the 2011 Softails, and that difference is worth something. I don't think a $1,500 discount on a 2 year old bike is very much. And considering the upgrades on a 2011, I'd probably bite the bullit and get a new (2011) one.
I think I'm leaning towards a used bike. There are several on the market in the 14's with upgraded exhaust and more that are nearly flawless. I appreciate the info on the electrics upgrades.
I bought my 08 rocker c on New Years eve day, in the afternoon, in a snow storm in new england. I brought 4200.00 CASH and put it on their desk so they could look at it...torture!! I got it for 16,650.00. I did not pay freight or setup! Everytime they told me I had too, I started to pick up my cash to leave...I did throw them a bone and paid the doc fee...didn't want to take advantage of them...I recommend cash and the last day of the year...they want them OFF the books before midnight.............good luck/ride safe
