Default Advice On First HD..........

Looking for some advice on my first HD. I have never owned one before & road a friends cross bones a few weeks ago & really liked it. That was the first time I have ever rode a cruiser type bike. I have always owned sport bikes but got rid of my last one to help purchase a house. Got my house now & pulled the plug on my engagement so now I'm single & ready to ride again.

I really like the look of the Night Train & that is the bike I am looking for. I like the all blacked out look, I don't care for all the chrome to be honest. The only problem is that I know nothing about these bikes or HD's. What are the best years to look for? Any other advice would be great too.

Thanks!!!

Welcome to the site. They're all good. As far as Night Train's, I think only the first year was an EVO motor then 88twin cam motor to 2006. 06' was also the first year for the wider 200mm rear tire. 2007 & up gets you a 6 speed trans (was 5 speed) and a 96" twin cam motor. Has better oil pump and cam tensioner system then the 88. The 88 is still a good motor and sells for less money. Do a search on the site about this as everything I just said has been stated on here over and over plus alot more info.

I think the 99 evo's are pretty cool if you can find one. But that is just me.

I actually had an R1 when I bought my fatboy. I thought I'd keep the R1 for fun and ride the fatboy when it was time for some comfort or for longer rides. Kept the R1 for about another month because I just really loved riding that HD.
I was looking hard at the night trains too when I started shopping, but I ended up going with the fatboy because it just seemed like a more versatile bike. Bag it, socal it, or leave it alone.. I'm not a big fan of the chrome either, but there is always the LO, or a good powder coater can fix that problem.

The Fat Boy Lo is pretty nice too but I have always liked the Night Train. I don't plan on getting something till the beginning of the year. A real close friend of mine works at a HD dealership about 2 hours away from me & he is keeping an eye out for one that comes in on trade.

Find a dealership that will let you demo ride the bikes. All the ones around here let you ride as long as your endorsed on your license.

Don't get your eye set on anything until you do some demo rides. Get what fits you, not what looks cool.

If you get what fits you, then you can work on getting it to your style and liking. Just my 2 cents. No sense in looking good if your not riding safely and comfortably. You'll just die better looking....

This is good advice!

Also the dealer near me has a frame set up where you can try different seats and handle bars so you can customize your bike to your fit, not sure who does that but it's worth asking. Ride your bike for a while before you change anything.
