I have ceramic coated exhaust on my bike and it took off 500 deg. from my pipes. So I would recommend sending your pipes out and getting them ceramic coated.
After I did the stg1 and later did the cams,, both of them together took the oil temp from 245 to 215... and it has to make the pipes cooler along with it...
so do like most of us have,, do a f/m system and add some cams then do a dyno tune and she'll run cooler...
Little different set-up, but I had my 09 FLHX exhaust ceramic coated for $160 (header, pipes & shields). Not that spendy at all & really does make a difference w/heat.

ceramic has many other advantages like it wont turn colors and it also spreads the heat the entire pipe so there are no hotspots and it helps cool the exhaust too. helps the engine run more constant. i found the next set i am going to get. http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/produc...fCatId=&mmyId=
Beat me to it Do what Drew said. It should not be getting that hot to turn the heat sheilds. Case in point I ran my pipes with no wrap or sheilds for while before wrapping them. Heat was never a big problem. And I am a short sh*t so my legs were close to the pipes.
