Default I need help removing my fuel tank

I have a 2005 Deuce and I'm changing my bars and putting the wires inside the new ones. So far removing the front and rear bolts , wire to the gas gauge , and removing the console.Have not been a problem. But how do I remove the gas line ? Is this a qiuck connect like a air cuck or do I need special tool . Thanks

Are you talking about the main line or the crossover. The main line is a quick disconnect. Push up on the outside sleeve and it'll pop off.

Yes I'm talking the main line. Also does the plate on the center of the tank have to be remove or can I leave it on ?

You'll only get a few drops. As long as the bike isn't running. Don't ask me how I know that

There is a check valve. Leave the plate on the top of the tank. Don't forget the crossover. That is the "tricky" part when gas usually gets all over the place.

yes the main line isnt your problem. Its when you have to remove the crossover line. I found it helped to have two people. I removed the crossover, and my friend quickly picked up the tank and I replaced the hose.

I don't find dealing with the crossover that much trouble. And while 4 hands would definitely be helpful I've always done it alone.

I run the tank down as far as I can first. Then hook a small funnel to a hose which feels into a gas can. I pop the rubber hose off and let it drain into the funnel while holding my finger over the metal drain tit for the left tank.

Once the right side drains out I take my finger off the left drain and let it drain. Then I cap both drains because once you tip the tank up to remove it more gas will run out. You could just put caps on them w/o draining the gas but I prefer to drain it.

I picked up a 4'x2' flat metal pan from Wally World and it's been a real Godsend for taking care of the inevitable spills you get when messing with fluids on the bike or car.
