Default Springer question

Im wanting to put a springer front end on my 06 night train. My question that I have is what legnth do I need. I have the stock non lowered front end now and just need the equivalent to that. Where do you measure from, does my bike have a 1" neck bearing, and how will the trail be effected etc. etc.?

You'll want the stock FX length springer. The FL length is 2" under. Most springer frontends are sold as + or - so many inches or stock length. You have a 1" steering bearing and the rake trail is made up by the length of the rocker. The springer does make for a different ride. You might want to look into a unit with the shock(s) to keep the frontend bounce limited.

Here's a two under on my bike. Didn't end up keeping it on there though.

ok so let me get this straight. If my bike (FX) is lowered 2 inches in the rear and I want a front end thats 2 inches shorter, than its gonna be a standard legnth FL front end? Which just from doing research is 22" I believe. I saw on ebay where a guy had a FXSTS factory front end and said it was 24" so Im guessing thats correct.

Belieive it is actually 24.5" for the stock FX, but yes, you are correct. If you want to lower the front 2", just get a -2 springer. Get an FL springer if you want to stay with Harley stock parts.
