Thanks. I have something similar on the way already. I'll wait until that arrives and figure out what to do.

If you go with a threaded insert, you might want to drill the hole a little oversized and deeper than the insert is long.
Place the insert on a flat plate with wax paper on it and fill the inserts threads with wax.
Mix up enough of an epoxy (JB Weld is good for this) to about half fill the hole and press the inset in till the epoxy is pushed up, and out around it.
Then wipe off the excess and leave it to set up for 24 to 48 hours.
Once the epoxy has hardened you can easily melt out the wax with a soldering iron leaving a clean set of threads on an insert that will not come loose anytime soon.

Thanks for the compliment, but to be honest I'm not that smart, I just swipe a lot of ideas from other people and maybe put them together in new ways.
I do have to admit that the wax idea is something I came up with after a lot of unsuccessful attempts to keep epoxy out of places I didn't want it.
The beauty of using wax is that its cheap (I like cheap solutions to problems), easy to get (any old candle works fine), is completely immune to epoxy's stick to everything nature, and is very easy to remove with only a little heat.
