Looking for a part.
I need some help on a part. I have moved my licence plate and tail light behind my Primary. I am now looking for a piece to fill in the hole left behind on the tail end of my back fender. Thanks in advance.

Maybe you can fabricate a piece to fit in nice and have it like the bar and shield.
Maybe you can fabricate a piece to fit in nice and have it like the bar and shield.
Here's how I would do it.
First go to the local grocery or stationary store and puck up a piece of that poster board (oaktag?) the kids use in school.
Cut out a piece a little wider and deeper than the fender sides. You can either hold it up to the end of the fender and trace its outline from underneath. Or start cutting a little at a time till it fits in there snugly. Trim the bottom off by first marking it with a ruller held across the bottom edges of the fender.
Make sure you have it either virtical or sloping to the rear as it goes down. That way it will look a little better. But more imporantly it will not trap dirt and water behind it. Or hit the tire if you hit a really bad bump when you have a passenger out back.
Next is to cut a couple of pieces of the poster board to duplicate the side mountings on your old tail light. First make the holes and really use the bolts to hold them in place. Be sure to make them long enough to extend past where you mocked up the cross piece.
Now is the fun part.
Take that cross piece you made and move it around to where you like it and use some tape on the outside to hold it while you look things over.
When you have it where you like it best sure a pen, pencil, or crayon to mark the side pieces from underneath.
Now take everything out.
Put the cross piece to the side and take the two side pieces and make sire they are both IDENTICAL. Use one as a pattern to make sure they are both exactly the same. Especially the angel you marked for the cross piece. Then cut along your lines.
When you have the three pieces the way you want them. Lightly tape them together on a flat surface.
You have now made a pattern for your new aluminum fender "filler" piece.
Use that to trace the outline on a piece of flat sheet metal. Idealy you should use a fairly heavy gauge aluminum, but any old piece of heavy scrap (RUST FREE) sheet meatal will do fine. It just takes more prep, and paint work to make it rust proof.
Once you have it cut out use a file or something to clena off any rough or sharp edges and cover them with masking tape. That's so you don't scratch anything while you do a trial fitting. It should be OK as is but you want it to duplicate the underside curve of the fender as close as possible. Just don't go crazy getting it perfect, your actually looking to duplicate the shape, but stay about 1/8" away. I'll explain why later.
Using the two side pieces you made earlier mark where the bends are going to be. then using a vise and block of wood bend them 90 degrees to shape. The block of wood and the vise should be longer/wider than the bend area so it bends evenly all the way across. Whe you put it in the vise make sure you put the makr about 1/16" or 1/8 above the jaws. if you put directly on the line it will turn out to be too wide to fit under the fender.
You should now be able to fit it in place and see if its going to fit properly, it should fit rasonably tight. If its too tight, trim it down wherever needed so it fits in easy. If you want to put anything on it like a HD emblem. Now is the time to do any fitting/drilling or whtever you need to put it on.
Once your satisfied with it start sanding and painting it however you want. Now while its drying well "fix" that 1/8" gap I mentioned befor by visiting the local auto parts store and finding some of that rubber door edge guard stuff. It usually comes in chrome or black, take the black as its usually softer. Your going to use a piece of that to fit it to the top of the center section of your part and it will act as a bumper to insulate the top edge of your nice new metal part, and keep it from damaging the paint under your old fender from bumps and vibration.

I was in the same situation that you are in w/ my '04 Softail Standard.
I kept the whole deal just so that I would be more visible w/ two brake lights...
so I ended up buying a chrome license plate backing plate, had it powdercoated black and mounted just like a normal license plate.
Jammer has them, P/N 19885, for $7.14.
My bike is lowered and that helped.
I'll try and post a picture.
