Default Australia?

There I was..... giving my '06 standard it's 2nd ever bath when I noticed my rear wheel was made in Australia. I knew some parts were made in other countries but the rear wheel is a major part and look of the bike. I was a little suprised I guess. Does anyone know roughly what percent of the bike is from other countries? I read somewhere that the average Harley is 92% American parts and the Victories are 96% american parts. No big deal I guess. The world is getting smaller and nothing is a pure bred any longer. I was just suprised such a major part would have "Made in Australia" cast into the wheel. If nothing else... at least it is clean now.

HD just bailed out the factory that makes them in Adelaide, they make all the cast wheels for Harley. Also interesting to note is that the plastic reflectors and turn indicator lens covers are made in Finland (where I was born). I guess who ever gives the lowest quote gets the job, doesn't have to be in the US.

thats right reino, about 2 months ago the company in adelaide (south australia) that makes the wheels for HD was going to shut it's doors, but HD bought the company and saved a heap of jobs, and i suppose maybe saved the wheels from being made in japan or something like that.

I thought only small parts here and there (reflectors) were built elsewhere. I just believe Harley-Davidson is an American icon and anything that has to do with the look or charactor of the bike should be built here in the states. I am sure every worker and their family there is thankful but that is what I believe. Like I said earlier the world is getting smaller. I would like to say I am glad Australia is making the wheels and not japan. If we have to export our jobs, then let anyone but Japan have them.....Japan has too many of our jobs the way it is. Maybe I am wrong for thinking this way I don't know. I like the wheel and maybe I'll get it chromed this winter. I don't mean to make anyone mad.... I was just suprised.
