Well with the power you are looking to get you are a bit out of my personal experience range. I did not have quite that amount to spend opn m,y engine mods.
Crazy to to think you'll be spending that much for a 98" when you can get a Fuel Moto 107" installed, tuned and broken in for under $2000... I liked my carb too, but EFI has been pretty good to me...

I dont follow you--
How would one got from a carbed 88 to an EFI 107 for less than $2k?
Thats a deal, I'll take, if you show me how..
Drop a big bore S&S motor in there and be done with it...
I had a good talk w/ T-man today, and think that is the way Im going.
Very nice guy, knows his ****, is not trying to kill me with parts and other things "I need" for the build.
He also would NOT talk about any of the other folks that do what he does.
I cant say the same for some of the other folks I called. Seems like a genuine dude that just does his deal, and stands behind it...
I was pretty impressed.
For years this is the way I have always heard it should be done and have always followed this process on a carbed bike:
1. Rejet the carb
2. Replace the pipes
3. Replace the cams
4. Re-do the heads
Now how big and how much all needs to be balanced with each component. The rejetting and pipes should be done at the same time, but the others you can step up to as money allows.
And always remember... Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

yep--sounds reasonable.
I figure by replacing the stock CV with a mikuni 45, and changing out the V&H Radius pipes to a set of custom stepped pipes last summer, I've knocked out steps 1 & 2....
I put on a Doherty PowerPac last weekend, so I've got that covered, as well.
BTW--If anyone is interested, the Doherty PowerPacc system w/breathers is one hell of a piece of work. There is some serious machining taking place on that thing. Very well built.
